The Journey of a Heroin Addict

For the last 27 years, I have been stuck in addiction due to family circumstances and poor mental health.

I was addicted to Heroin and Crack, and I a cycle of manipulating my family to get money to justify the pain from the marriage break up. During my 20’s I was experiencing a lot of suicidal thoughts and found myself homeless three times.

I was in an abusive relationship that resulted In me being attacked on a daily basis, and once I got fed up with this, I made myself intentionally homeless for my own safety.

I soon met a lady who helped me a lot, she put a roof over my head and introduced me to recovery, unfortunately she overdosed.

This is when the reality hit me.

I moved from Portsmouth and came to Telford and entered a recovery house with a local provider.

Since then, I have sought support for my addiction and mental health, I recently celebrated 18 months clean and have spent that time supporting others around me.

I now volunteer at TACT and enjoy my days in recovery.
